Summer Solstice 2020 ~ A Turning Point Whose Time Has Come

As the sliver of the waning moon pierced the eastern sky before dawn this morning, I was immediately struck by how much power a thin curve of light can hold.

My new moon muse typically visits me in her dark balsamic phase – the silent, pregnant space of potential. This month’s new moon cycle seems to require the alchemy of that silver slice of luminescence, so I find myself sitting with the Summer Solstice/New Moon/Solar Eclipse chart as a steady rain pulses outside. It drives the abundant pine pollen of the mountains to the earth in rivulets of gold and green so that new life may emerge.

For me, each Equinox and Solstice brings its own magic. They are turning points in time where we welcome and celebrate the seasons that shape our lives.

This Summer Solstice brings three potent celestial events together to support our continued, much-needed growth and expansion. Summer Solstice, marked by the moment when the Sun moves into Cancer, will occur at 3:44 pm MDT on June 20, 2020. Then New Moon, Summer Solstice and an annular, “ring of fire” Solar Eclipse will converge during the midnight hour, MDT, on June 21, 2020 in the northern and western hemispheres, at zero degrees of Cancer.

Five planets, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto, are retrograde during this time, drawing us deeper into the realms that they govern: communication, love, beliefs, limits, and power, respectively. Neptune will soon join them, taking us deeper into the realm of spiritual unity.

If we need more impetus to make the sweeping changes that are upon us, it can be helpful to understand that eclipses in general provide thresholds. Solar ones, which occur only when the moon is in its new phase, intensify the call to step out of what is known into uncharted territory.

While the Solar/Lunar activity is centered in the cardinal sign of Cancer, it makes an exact inconjunction to Saturn in Aquarius. This aspect indicates a need for bringing incongruent ideas to the table and giving them each a voice.

Cancer is a cardinal modality and intent on reaching out to express its feelings and primal need for security. The Sun and Moon in this sign have everything to do with living in a safe, secure way that nourishes the heart and the child within.

Aquarius is fixed, and more interested in attracting what it needs, convinced that it will be provided for as it exists in the realm of possibility. It also has an abiding awareness of the interconnection and interdependence of the family of sentient beings in this and other realms. Saturn in this sign has galactic limits and knows without a doubt that what is old and outworn has no place in the brave new world of opportunity, where all beings can flourish.

These are the seemingly incongruent energies that are calling to us now.

~ Are we willing to trust what we feel in our hearts and then to take action born out of compassion?

~ Can we meet our own needs while supporting the needs of others?

~ Will we be courageous enough to offer everyone a seat at the table?

~ Are we ready to cultivate love, the most potent and abundant healing power on our planet?

Here’s to affirming, on this Summer Solstice of 2020, that the answer at the forefront of our collective mind is yes. Unconditionally yes.

We will embrace this turning point whose time has come.

With great love, blessings and prayers for fresh, brighter new beginnings, like those that follow a night of rain, for all relations.

Celebrating Summer Solstice ~

Yay Summer!! The season officially began this morning in the western hemisphere when the Sun slipped into Cancer at 9:54 am MDT, where growth is certain and abundant, and joy awaits our alignment! If we turn our attention to the natural world that is our home, we can see abundant evidence of growth all around us.

Gardens abound with busy pollinators. Newborn geese instinctively following the lead of their parents. Baby ungulates dance inside protective circles formed by their mothers. As the Sun warms the earth with its light, life is born and finds its way forward.
As we find our way forward in Cancer, we have the opportunity to rebirth ourselves – to nurture and love ourselves in ways that support our growth and bring joy to our days. Cancer is a watery, cardinal sign that must express its emotional needs. It takes us back to this essential and simple truth: at the core of each of us is an abiding need for love.

Neptune went retrograde in Pisces this morning a couple of hours before the Summer Solstice, inviting a deeper dive into the mysteries of life and worlds beyond ours. In this realm, the art of allowing and surrendering to something larger and more powerful beckons us closer to our potential. Forgiveness, and the need for it, is ramped up now. If we’re holding onto things that block our growth, we’re invited to release them – to simply let them dissolve. Releasing resistance with a sense of gratitude allows our blessings to multiply.

In the spirit of appreciation, our current Gemini New Moon Cycle inspired me to share an image of Nature on my Facebook page each day. The Summer Solstice takes me to Day 19 in this cycle of 29 days.

This sacred day finds me wanting to join the Universe in its rearranging of gifts, so I’m offering a free crystal to those that order a New Earth Essence Consultation during the Summer of 2019. The crystal will be chosen to support your alignment with joy, as shown by your chart reading – perhaps smoky quartz if grounding is indicated, clear quartz for clarity, rose quartz for love, etc. Shipping within the US is free. To book a New Earth Essence reading, please email me or place your order here.

This Gemini New Moon cycle will end when the Moon shifts into Cancer and eclipses the Sun on July 2nd, 2019, bringing more opportunities to begin again. I’ll share more celestial insights as we get closer to the upcoming Cancer New Moon cycle and the two eclipses that July brings, but for now, Summer deserves its day in the Sun, as do we. Enjoy!

Happy Summer Blessings and Much Love, always ~

Summer Solstice Magic ~

Just before dawn MDT on June 21, 2018, we entered the realm of Cancer, where everything grows. Cancer holds close to its heart that which it loves, and it nourishes what needs to be fed.

It feels everything. It knows what is needed to support growth and sustain life.

The lizard on the lichen-covered rock drinks in the warmth of the sunniest day of the year, completely trusting the present moment even as it dreams its future.

Seeds sowed in the spring bear flowers that open their petals to bees, butterflies, and birds. Water from recent rains quenches the forest and fills hollowed out places in cliffs high in the mountains for ground squirrels, warblers, and dark-eyed juncos.

Ruled by the moon, Cancer is the ultimate feminine goddess calling us home to her heart and hearth.

What nourishment do we seek now?

How willing are we to give what we receive to others that need it?

If we were to dwell in the space of our hearts, and then think and speak from there, what would we say?

In the warm days to come, as the moon waxes full in Capricorn next week and two eclipses in July command our attention, we’ll do well to revisit these questions and journey to our hearts and let love guide our thoughts, words, and steps…

Here’s to turning toward the light and growing…together.

Abundant Summer Solstice Blessings ~

As the wheel turns and the Sun enters the realm of Cancer’s deep oceans and powerful shifting tides this evening (June 20th, 2017 at 10:24 pm MT), I invite us to ponder what we want to grow over the next 3 Moon cycles ~ Cancer is all about nurturing and growing ourselves, our families, and our hearts. May we connect with our larger family in the name of growth for all sentient beings ~ so that all may be blessed.

Cancer is ruled by the Moon, whose reflection of the Sun’s light shifts the waters of the Earth and stirs the mysteries within our Souls. The newborns that we once were, suspended in the womb of our mothers reach for us now ~ and the deep primal need for safety, warmth, and love emerges once again. In a world where the certainty that our needs will be – and are being – met is tenuous, Cancer asks us to feel our way through

Some of the outer planets are retrograding now, adding to the urgency we may feel for both growth and safety – freedom and discipline. As Saturn slows and journeys backward in the expansive sign of Sagittarius, we’re being invited to stretch our limits in many areas – to revisit beliefs and structures that hold us back.
Neptune is retrograding in its home sign of Pisces, deepening our emotions and intuition – asking us to trust what we know but cannot see.
Pluto is retrograde in Capricorn, drawing out the period of time needed for a true and lasting transformation of the ways that power is manifested – especially where abuses of it exist. Rather than assisting us to remodel our existing outworn institutions, Pluto urges us to level them so that we can begin again.

Happily, the ever-helpful planet of Jupiter has gone direct this month in the harmonious and balancing sign of Venus-ruled Libra. Jupiter’s aim is to help us grow in wisdom. In Libra, the key to that wisdom lies in considering both sides – ours and others, yours and mine, yes and no. As we align with the potential abundance of Jupiter’s blessings, may we see both/and a bit more often than we see either/or.

May the harmony of all of these planets, and the rest that I haven’t mentioned but always appreciate, stir within each of us on this Solstice in ways that birth the best of all that we are capable of being.

Here are a few of Cancer’s friends for inspiration on the journey of loving ourselves, and each other, enough ~

Abundant Blessings to All on this Summer Solstice ~
May we grow together in Love, always…Christina

the mutability of things ~ Summer Solstice 2016 ~

On this eve of Summer Solstice, as a snow-white thunderhead catches the last flicker of light from the Sun tucking into the mountains in the West and edges closer to the dancing Red Planet in the South, I am reminded of the mutability of things.

solstice eveThe clouds have been speaking to me lately. They speak of how moistened air instantly shifts what it touches and what we see; they speak of how our beliefs can change with the speed of thought; they speak of how our yearning to converse and connect with others is as deep and necessary as our need to breathe; they speak of how each phase of the breath (the inhale, the pause, the exhale, the pause) are integral to the whole – the essence of the breath. Without any one of these components, they say, the breath – would not be. Without one, the other would not be. Without the other, one would not be.

Tomorrow’s Full Moon (June 20, 2016) brings all things mercurial to light just before dawn in the mountains of Colorado (5:02 am MDT). At the end degrees of Sagittarius and Gemini, we’re invited to celebrate what we’ve learned and the myriad ways that our awareness has expanded. A Grand Mutable Cross between Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune emphasizes the value of flexibility, of changing our fixed patterns of limiting thoughts and beliefs, and flowing into that expansion. What if the patterns that shape our worldview were not fixed? What if we could, quite literally, lighten up? What if we approached obstacles with a breath of fresh air? These are the questions that drift before me now.

Most especially, this one: What if we trusted our highest truths? The ones that honored the relationship of the one and the other?

Later tomorrow (June 20, 2016 at 4:34 pm MDT), the fluctuating nature of the Sun in Gemini will give way to the Lunar-ruled nourishing ways of Cancer, marking the longest day and the Summer Solstice in the western world. By then, the Moon will have left Sagittarius and entered the wise and mature realm of Capricorn. The Sun and Venus will caress each other in Cancer, helping us to feel our way through it all – through the tears, the joys, the beginnings and endings, the life and the loss. Their joining will support us in honoring each phase of our evolution – each part of the collective breath that we share as
ever-growing beings on this planet, our home for now.

The Grand Mutable Cross will still be in alignment and the question remains – will we?
As we are shown what is and what isn’t working in our lives and our world, (as Mercury in Gemini, and Jupiter in Virgo are want to do) and what foundations that we stand upon are too rigid or limiting for these changing times (as Saturn in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces are known to bring up), how will we respond? As our ‘reality’ (Saturn) encounters our ‘ideals’ (Neptune) how will we reconcile the differences, if we find them? How willingly and gracefully shall we bring the truth to light?

With growing faith in the mutability and beauty of things – and our Earthship Crew –
I send infinite blessings in the pauses of each breath on every cloud ~ christina
