October’s end brings a Blue Moon on the morning of All Hallows’ Eve, at 8:49 am MDT. Her light is growing as I write this and her glow spills over my left shoulder. I spent the last Full Moon in Taurus in the sacred lands of Sedona, pictured below. As I recall the moment when the Moon claimed her place in the evening sky, my heart fills with a sense of hopefulness and possibility. I’m transported to the red Earth where our ancestors walked, danced, sang, prayed, and blessed the desert with tears of joy and grief. Halloween, or Samhain, is a time when the veil between worlds thins, when we honor those that have gone before us. Blue Moons, the second Full Moon of any given month, serve to thin the veil even more, giving us a rare opportunity to connect with the realm of Spirit on a deeper level than normal.
This Full Moon in Taurus, will be exactly conjunct Retrograde Uranus at eight degrees, while the Sun opposes them in Scorpio. Uranus is the planet of change and inspiration, usually sudden and beyond our realm of control. It’s transpersonal and invested in the growth of humanity. It implores us to consider what is good for the whole and motivates us to expand our personal Saturnian boundaries and limits.
In Taurus, Uranus aims to remodel our relationship to what matters to us. Practical values come to mind, but so do matters of the heart, for Taurus is ruled by Venus, the planet of love.
Its retrograde position deepens this process of exploration and discovery.
If the lives we’re living aren’t aligned with our highest ideals, we’re likely to experience change. One of the key things to keep in mind when Uranus is activated is that while we cannot control circumstances and events outside of ourselves, we can definitely control our responses to them. When responsibility is understood as our ‘ability to respond’ it changes everything.
Opposite the Moon, the Sun in Scorpio brings us to consider power – both creative
and destructive. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, the planet of transformation, whose power can be seen in nature during the changing seasons and in the cycles of life of all sentient beings on Earth. It carries the energy of water and forces what is circulating beneath the surface to show itself.
We can harness the power of opposing planets and luminaries by embodying the gifts of each one. Grounded to the Earth in the center of opposing forces, we are at our strongest and able to weather the changes that come our way.
This Full Moon in Taurus offers us the opportunity to stand in the center of love and power. It takes great courage to stand in love in the face of uncertainty. To know that love is the most powerful force on our planet, and to trust that when applied to any situation, it transforms and elevates the outcome.
As the Moon rises, falls, and waxes during the coming days and peaks on All Hallows’ Eve, I’m sending massive courage to all relations – past, present and future – to embody love
and power, for the highest good of all sentient beings. To our ancestors who illuminated paths upon Earth before us and continue to light the
way forward, I send infinite gratitude, blessings and love.
