When Jupiter, the planet of expansion, shifts into Scorpio it seeks to
expand our expression of power.
May Jupiter’s gifts be honored with grace by all of us ~
The Sabian Symbol* for October 5th’s Full Moon at 12 degrees Aries is A Flock of Geese.
When we consider how the flock flies in formation, we notice that the geese alternate the role of the leader ~ taking time to rest when needed by moving to the line of the V formation,
and/or moving up to the front and leading when strong. In this way, the success of the whole flock is served, and their mutual goal of reaching their destination is realized.
Given that the highest expression of Aries is met when its opposing sign of Libra is honored with equal consideration, this is a perfect symbol for today’s Full Moon. It encompasses the wisdom of nurturing and caring for the self (Aries’ mantra is I Am), while considering what will work for the good of the whole (Libra’s mantra is We Are). It also helps us redefine how we see leadership ~ all of us have our gifts, and none are better, nor more valuable than another’s ~ only different. In fact, we all win when each of our unique (another Aries word) gifts are acknowledged and shared (Libra’s aim).
This Moon ramps up a few aspects that have been encouraging us to take our turns as leaders in the world. First, it squares Pluto in Capricorn, which has been asking us to transform the way that we define – and allow our lives to be defined by – power. Personal Power, Authority, Systems, Institutions, Norms, and Mores are all under scrutiny – and have been for some time now. We are being asked not only to question whom or what we give our authority to, but also to reclaim it for ourselves. Pluto in Capricorn is also squaring Jupiter in Libra right now, which asks us again, to grow and expand our sense of shared power – power that is harmonious for the whole.
When people talk about the intensity of this Full Moon, I believe that the square to Pluto has much to do with it, along with the fact that Aries is ruled by Mars – which wants what it wants – when it wants it!
When I see challenges like this in a chart, I always look for the gifts. The energetic patterns that can help us with this potentially combative, warrior-like expression of Aries, are found in the Full Moon’s trine to Saturn in Sagittarius, which encourages an expansive redefinition of boundaries and structures. It seeks the higher truth and wants liberation from confinement. When we add the gift of Saturn’s trine to Uranus at the end of Aries to this equation, we see another channel for connecting to the flow. We can express our uniqueness by making changes that support our freedom. Uranus always wants us to stretch our Saturn boundaries. It pulls us from the realm of the personal planets into the transpersonal ones, where evolution beckons.
By all means, this Full Moon encourages us to breathe into the space of peace when riled, to move in ways that let stagnant or repressed energies be felt and expressed, to ground in to the Earth’s strength and be willing to step up the game and demonstrate our gifts. However, at the same time, like the geese, we can step back and nurture our selves, and rest as we’re guided, knowing that the whole of us is better served when we are balanced and strong.
*The Sabian Symbols were channeled in the early 1900’s by a blind woman who used her inner sight to identify visions for each degree of the zodiac. They are used by astrologers around the world for their wisdom.
May the Full Moon’s blessings illumine our world ~ for the highest good of all relations.
The moon slips into a void of course phase just as it becomes new tomorrow – Tuesday evening, Sept. 19, 2017, at 11:30 pm MDT, making this New Moon in Virgo a perfect time to ground, center, and heal ourselves and our world.
The trees shared here hold unique gifts for the shadowy side of Virgo, where worry and guilt can occupy more than their fair share of space in the otherwise proficient consciousness of Virgo. The essence of Aspen help to connect us to a sense of well-being, dispelling worry – especially about what is unknown. Pine’s essence helps us release guilt and embrace the art of forgiveness, particularly in relation to ourselves.
Connect to the forest floor.
Ground into the Earth as trees do.
Imagine breathing in the scents and energies of this aspen and pine forest as the Earth willingly heals what we release. In return, she generously fills us with strength to greet what the new day – and night – brings. As we ground into this moment, wherever we are on Earth, we connect to what calls to be nurtured, healed.
Virgo is the ultimate healer, dedicated to service of the Earth, first and foremost. When we renew ourselves in her realm, we come to know our capacity to heal, to serve, to grow. We emerge more upright, aligned with a more perfect – and accurate – vision of our potential.
May we embrace the wisdom of the forest, remain centered and peaceful, and spread abundant blessings on the Earth, always ~
Tomorrow, on August 7, 2017, the Full Moon occurs at 15° Aquarius at 12:11 pm MDT, when it opposes the Sun at 15° Leo. A Partial Lunar Eclipse follows closely behind at 12:22 pm MDT. A total Solar Eclipse arrives on August 21, 2017 at 12:26 pm MDT.
Mars, the red planet, ignites both eclipses that occur this month as it nears the Sun in Leo. Mars offers the energy to reach out for what we want and fire signs encourage inspiration. Mars in Leo wants to shine and attention amplifies its expression – the more it is noticed, the greater its performance. Its potent energy is best used consciously. When we repress or deny it, we can encounter ‘accidents’.
Leo is synonymous with will – its ruler is the Sun, the creative force of life. Aquarius is synonymous with possibilities. It is ruled by Uranus, the closest of the transpersonal planets. It serves to connect the expression of our personal will with our collective will. It inspires visions of what is possible so that our personal expressions serve higher aims. Sometimes it does this abruptly in ways that shake us to our core; other times we can experience lightening bolts of inspiration that spur us to change direction or take some long-overdue action.
One thing that is certain about Uranus’s influence is that while events and/or the actions of others are outside of our control, we always have the ability to choose how we respond to what occurs. This August could well be a time to take a few deep breaths, count to ten – repeatedly – or to step back from discord to gather our best selves in order to respond, rather than react. Ultimately, if we’re able to tap into and move with the energy that surrounds us now, our lives will flow with more grace and joy, and Leo loves to play!
Leo’s fire is about self-expression and creativity, while Aquarius’s air encourages consideration of what is possible for our planetary family. When we cultivate and ignite choices that honor both of these energies, we maximize the power of this full moon and partial lunar eclipse.
What urges do we feel now, and who do our urges serve? Do they bring us joy?
What are we inspired to say, do, or create? How will our words, actions, and creations improve the world?
Who are we inspired to be – as individuals in a universal family?
In-between the space of the eclipses, on August 12th, Mercury, the messenger planet, goes retrograde (Rx) in Virgo. It joins Saturn in Sagittarius, Chiron and Neptune in Pisces, Uranus in Aries, and Pluto in Capricorn in that trajectory. This shift brings the cosmic prescription or major pause button in the sky to a more personal level. Opportunities to stop, contemplate, and clarify our intentions is emphasized again.Consideration is critical. Reconsideration, even better.
Mercury likes being in Virgo, but plans may need to be revised in order to be effective. Letting ideas gestate is important during periods when Mercury goes retrograde. We can seek to balance the urgency of Mars in Leo with the perspective of Mercury retrograde in Virgo by allowing space for the editing process.
The third week of August brings the Total Solar Eclipse at 28° Leo, amplifying the themes above. Mars remains in play on the Leo side of the stage, and Mercury Rx joins the party on the Virgo side.
A Grand Fire trine connects the energies of the Sun, Moon, and Mars in Leo with Saturn in Sagittarius and Uranus in Aries. Now, we’re urged to express our highest, most expansive truths as we light up the world’s stage with our brilliance in innovative ways that are uniquely ours. Whew! Breathe that in….and, no pressure!! Or, as Mary Oliver said, “Breathe it all in, Love it all out.”
All that being said, Eclipses assist us in clearing the way so that a new expression of ourselves and our lives may emerge. If this feels like a mountain of pressure that makes us want to retreat, then we can retreat – but let’s do it consciously! The world is full of possibilities and choices. All of the retrograde energies certainly support us in nurturing ourselves as we surrender what is ready to be released, what no longer serves our evolving visions, personally and collectively. This may well be the path: the one that is illuminated. Here. Now.
With Abundant Gratitude and Blessings for each one of us and the Light that we are…always.
As the wheel turns and the Sun enters the realm of Cancer’s deep oceans and powerful shifting tides this evening (June 20th, 2017 at 10:24 pm MT), I invite us to ponder what we want to grow over the next 3 Moon cycles ~ Cancer is all about nurturing and growing ourselves, our families, and our hearts. May we connect with our larger family in the name of growth for all sentient beings ~ so that all may be blessed.
Cancer is ruled by the Moon, whose reflection of the Sun’s light shifts the waters of the Earth and stirs the mysteries within our Souls. The newborns that we once were, suspended in the womb of our mothers reach for us now ~ and the deep primal need for safety, warmth, and love emerges once again. In a world where the certainty that our needs will be – and are being – met is tenuous, Cancer asks us to feel our way through.
Some of the outer planets are retrograding now, adding to the urgency we may feel for both growth and safety – freedom and discipline. As Saturn slows and journeys backward in the expansive sign of Sagittarius, we’re being invited to stretch our limits in many areas – to revisit beliefs and structures that hold us back.
Neptune is retrograding in its home sign of Pisces, deepening our emotions and intuition – asking us to trust what we know but cannot see.
Pluto is retrograde in Capricorn, drawing out the period of time needed for a true and lasting transformation of the ways that power is manifested – especially where abuses of it exist. Rather than assisting us to remodel our existing outworn institutions, Pluto urges us to level them so that we can begin again.
Happily, the ever-helpful planet of Jupiter has gone direct this month in the harmonious and balancing sign of Venus-ruled Libra. Jupiter’s aim is to help us grow in wisdom. In Libra, the key to that wisdom lies in considering both sides – ours and others, yours and mine, yes and no. As we align with the potential abundance of Jupiter’s blessings, may we see both/and a bit more often than we see either/or.
May the harmony of all of these planets, and the rest that I haven’t mentioned but always appreciate, stir within each of us on this Solstice in ways that birth the best of all that we are capable of being.
Here are a few of Cancer’s friends for inspiration on the journey of loving ourselves, and each other, enough ~
The space in-between eclipses – n. a pause between the inhale and exhale of the cosmos. February’s Full Moon in Leo on the 10th brought a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse and on this Sunday, the 26th, the New Moon in Pisces will emerge moments after the peak of an Annular Solar Eclipse. As I attune to higher realms, I sense a spaciousness being stretched to its boundaries by questions. At the core of this ever-expanding galactic balloon is this one:
Can we trust the space in-between?
Are we willing to exist where we are neither letting go nor receiving? Can we live without attachment to either/or?
I was planning on writing about the typical issues that tend to surface when we are in-between the cycles of eclipses: What are we willing to release that has outlived its value? What will we erase in order to write a new script? Yet, as the wind whips through the skies on this evening when the Moon in Capricorn cooperates with Neptune, I am finding myself shifting into a different place – one that feels more fertile, pregnant even, with possibility. When I sit in this place of limitless presence, all that was and all that will be is here with me, and all is well.
Come. Breathe in. Pause.
Breathe out. Pause.
Let the Cosmos breathe you awake in the space in-between ~
With infinite blessings from this ever-expansive space,
As the calendar year turns from 2016 to 2017 in our western culture and I consider the alignment of the cosmos to our planet Earth, this quote by Nancy Levin strikes me:
Honor the space between no longer and not yet.
Essentially, this space is the present moment. The sacred now. Much of how we approach astrology involves looking ahead, and prior years have found me falling into that pattern, but the pull I am feeling to be in this moment, right here, right now, is stronger than old habits.
I was practicing my meditation and affirming my intentions for the coming year on January first of 2017. I noticed that the nature of my intentions shifted from years past. Instead of listing goals related to tangible achievements, I found myself affirming things like honoring my intuition more, spending time in nature daily, listening to my body when making decisions, really looking into the eyes and hearts of those I see, and asking Spirit for guidance more often and then trusting what I am shown. As the Sun dropped beneath the mountains to the west, the clouds formed an exclamation point. Literally! The emphatic YES! from the Universe made me laugh aloud.
In the fading light, a flock of crows flew from south to north, cawing in flight. One alit on a tall Douglas Fir to my left, its profile silhouetted by the sky’s last slip of gold. Crow medicine speaks of Universal Law, where the ability to gather wisdom and truth from all levels of time into the present moment is possible. The necessity of this medicine in our world is clear to me. We can – and must – learn from the past while letting it go. We can – and must – plant intentions for the future while growing in the present moment. Indeed, this moment is the only place we can bring our wisdom to bear on the world – where we can create what we intend – where we can bring the Spirit in us to life.
May we each seek and find the magic of life in each moment. It is here. Now. May we notice the shifts in the wind and the changing shapes of the clouds. May we hear the wisdom of the natural world, from the ice crystals that freeze autumn leaves in rivers to the animal messengers who speak to us. May we know that each moment ~ and each of us ~ holds great magic and power, and may we honor the NOW with an emphatic YES!
With deep trust in the magic of our world and our higher selves to honor it,
Coming soon to a night sky near you ~ can you feel her energy growing?
On December 13th, 2016 at 5:05 pm MST, the Moon waxes Full in Gemini.
Which questions will we pose to Sources wiser than ourselves in order to expand our consciousness? Instead of expecting answers that are black/white – either/or – yes/no, can we consider those that honor both/and?
Can we entertain the idea that the answers we seek lie within the questions?
And then, can we trust the answers to which we are guided?
Here’s to our connection to and expansion of the Light ~
New Moons are a time to plant intentions, wishes, hopes, and seeds.
The New Moon in Scorpio today finds me wrapping my prayers
in the darkness of the Earth, not for my personal healing,
but for the healing of our collective Family of All Relations.
Scorpio energy has a flowing, pulsating intensity about it ~ an innate desire and potency to create life by fusing the polar opposite energies of male and female. Its core energy signature is POWER. Opposite Scorpio in the zodiac, Taurus holds the stable, grounding energy of Mother Earth, that nurtures, nourishes, and feeds us. Its core energy signature is LOVE.
During these divisive and polarized times, as we are transmuting the vast distortion of control and power on our planet, my prayers on this New Moon are planted deep in the truth of our potential to merge and embody Power and Love ~ with a deep commitment and knowing that both energies shall be fused until a new way of living emerges. In that new expression of being, our Collective Heart pulsates with the Power of Love, and Blessings flow to all beings ~

What if the volatility of October’s Full Moon at 23 degrees Aries, that bumps up against Uranus (the planet of surprising and inspiring events) and squares Pluto (the planet of utter transformation and the busting up of old, worn-out systems), and Mars (the planet of reaching out for our desires), resulted in an explosion of LOVE?
Uranus’s energy pattern implores us to expand what we know. It inspires us to stretch beyond our current boundaries that may have once had their usefulness, but no longer serve our growth.
Uranus rules the zodiac Air sign of Aquarius, so if we consider those we know with Aquarian natures, we likely conjure out-of-the-box thinkers, who often seem to dwell in a world very different than most. Ingenuity is theirs, along with inspiration to see and create solutions that serve the whole of humanity. Now, imagine Uranus, with all of those qualities and impulses, in the innovative and survival-oriented sign of Aries. Uber-confident, fiery Aries is intent on paving new pathways for others to follow for the survival of self-identity, yes, but also, ultimately for the survival of its species. Surely, if we are to survive, the best of both expressions must be cultivated.
This Full Moon in Aries, on October 15th, Saturday night, at 10:23 pm MST, illuminates those paths, and invites us to open new doorways to opportunities beyond our imagination, individually and collectively. It squares Pluto in Capricorn, which is perfectly poised to draw our attention to the systems of power and control that need to crumble in order for new life to emerge and flourish. It would be hard to deny that our larger limiting systems of power and control are breaking down in the world. Fortunately, there is increased awareness and transparency of the abuses of power in our world, and many of us are responding to the call to reclaim it. The elevated aspects of Pluto in Capricorn lead us to the wisdom of harnessing the power to co-create our experience and our reality. There is no place for victim-consciousness or remaining stuck in a cycle of blame. Instead, the square in the sky between places power in our realm, and allows us to choose our way forward with our thoughts, words, and actions. Since Pluto is currently conjunct, or next to Mars in Capricorn, the square from the Full Moon amplifies the strong desire we may feel to bust through our limiting belief systems and the structures in the world that keep them intact. Mars may add to our sense of urgency and volatility at this time, so taking care to pause and connect to our collective desires – where everyone wins – aligns us with the wisdom and honorable nature of Capricorn.
Finally, the Sun in Libra, whose Light illuminates the Full Moon in Aries, must become part of the conversation. Libra: where the scales of balance are weighed; where Venus has her say and the Laws of Love and Harmony come into play; where beauty abides and everyone is valued equally and unequivocally, and we all win.
What if, as all of these cosmic energies arrange themselves, we choose to see their alignment for our greater good, and then focus on the abundant opportunities to
stretch, bend, and grow our collective heart?
It is here that I will meet you tomorrow night, sleeping in the glow of Libran light cast upon the Arian Moon, dreaming and co-creating a new path,
for the good of all relations…
With infinite blessings to all,
