2020’s Second New Moon in Cancer ~ Growing Love

On July 20, 2020, at 11:33 am MDT, we’ll be blessed with a second New Moon in Cancer of the year. The first one brought a Solar Eclipse at zero degrees on June 20, 2020, the Summer Solstice, when we celebrated the longest day and shortest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

Cancer symbolizes new life and anything in its realm is destined to grow. It is ruled by the Moon, and invested in nourishment, security and love. Emotional sensitivity is abundant, family is paramount and mothering instincts are fierce.

Here is what nourishment, growth and love looked like in the natural world on that sacred Summer Solstice day ~

July’s New Moon arrives at 28 degrees of Cancer and forms an exact opposition to Saturn and looser ones to Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn. It implores us to stop defending rigid beliefs and structures built on them when their time is clearly over. It also forms a loose trine to Neptune in Pisces, where compassion is abundant and spiritual mastery flourishes.

This second New Moon cycle in Cancer offers the gift of time; it feels as if we’re being given a second chance. Cancer is associated with birth while Capricorn has to do with time and maturity. The fact that we are blessed with not one, but two New Moon cycles in Cancer this year is remarkable, and this New Moon’s opposition to the Capricorn stellium of Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto confirms that it is indeed time.

~ It is time to let go of conditioning that holds us back and separates us from each other.

~ It is time to to plant what we want to grow – individually and collectively.

~ It is time to nourish life with tender attention and care.

~ It is time for living life in a way that gives birth to love.

Here is how that showed up in Nature today ~

May we turn toward love and embody what the natural world shows us everyday.

With great blessings of love, light and peace, always.

Summer Solstice 2020 ~ A Turning Point Whose Time Has Come

As the sliver of the waning moon pierced the eastern sky before dawn this morning, I was immediately struck by how much power a thin curve of light can hold.

My new moon muse typically visits me in her dark balsamic phase – the silent, pregnant space of potential. This month’s new moon cycle seems to require the alchemy of that silver slice of luminescence, so I find myself sitting with the Summer Solstice/New Moon/Solar Eclipse chart as a steady rain pulses outside. It drives the abundant pine pollen of the mountains to the earth in rivulets of gold and green so that new life may emerge.

For me, each Equinox and Solstice brings its own magic. They are turning points in time where we welcome and celebrate the seasons that shape our lives.

This Summer Solstice brings three potent celestial events together to support our continued, much-needed growth and expansion. Summer Solstice, marked by the moment when the Sun moves into Cancer, will occur at 3:44 pm MDT on June 20, 2020. Then New Moon, Summer Solstice and an annular, “ring of fire” Solar Eclipse will converge during the midnight hour, MDT, on June 21, 2020 in the northern and western hemispheres, at zero degrees of Cancer.

Five planets, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto, are retrograde during this time, drawing us deeper into the realms that they govern: communication, love, beliefs, limits, and power, respectively. Neptune will soon join them, taking us deeper into the realm of spiritual unity.

If we need more impetus to make the sweeping changes that are upon us, it can be helpful to understand that eclipses in general provide thresholds. Solar ones, which occur only when the moon is in its new phase, intensify the call to step out of what is known into uncharted territory.

While the Solar/Lunar activity is centered in the cardinal sign of Cancer, it makes an exact inconjunction to Saturn in Aquarius. This aspect indicates a need for bringing incongruent ideas to the table and giving them each a voice.

Cancer is a cardinal modality and intent on reaching out to express its feelings and primal need for security. The Sun and Moon in this sign have everything to do with living in a safe, secure way that nourishes the heart and the child within.

Aquarius is fixed, and more interested in attracting what it needs, convinced that it will be provided for as it exists in the realm of possibility. It also has an abiding awareness of the interconnection and interdependence of the family of sentient beings in this and other realms. Saturn in this sign has galactic limits and knows without a doubt that what is old and outworn has no place in the brave new world of opportunity, where all beings can flourish.

These are the seemingly incongruent energies that are calling to us now.

~ Are we willing to trust what we feel in our hearts and then to take action born out of compassion?

~ Can we meet our own needs while supporting the needs of others?

~ Will we be courageous enough to offer everyone a seat at the table?

~ Are we ready to cultivate love, the most potent and abundant healing power on our planet?

Here’s to affirming, on this Summer Solstice of 2020, that the answer at the forefront of our collective mind is yes. Unconditionally yes.

We will embrace this turning point whose time has come.

With great love, blessings and prayers for fresh, brighter new beginnings, like those that follow a night of rain, for all relations.

Cancer’s New Moon Cycle Births the Eclipse Season ~

July brings powerful gifts with two eclipses in the Cancer/Capricorn axis. The first one, a Total Solar Eclipse, occurs at 9° and 10° Cancer. It begins on the morning of the Cancer New Moon on July 2nd at 10:55 am MDT, reaches totality at 1:22 pm MDT (just after the New Moon at 1:16 pm MDT) and ends at 3:50 pm MDT.
It will be visible in South America and the Pacific.

The New Moon in Cancer on July 2nd is pregnant with possibilities for growth and rebirth, and this first Total Solar Eclipse of the year maximizes its potential. Its proximity to the North Node in Cancer and its opposition to Saturn and the South Node in Capricorn holds the urgency that is felt before emerging into a new life.

If we’ve responded to the energies of the lunar nodal axis in Cancer/Capricorn lately, we’ve clarified our needs and worked toward meeting them by engaging in radical self-care and love. If we’ve ignored this impulse, we could be caught in a cycle of expectation and blame where we look to others or the world around us to fill our soul needs and/or wounds. Avoiding personal responsibility and feeding old patterns of victim thinking is exactly what this eclipse cycle is inviting us to release and transform.

Mars joins Mercury in fiery Leo during this Cancer New Moon/Total Solar Eclipse. Mercury in Leo encourage us to shine a light on thoughts that we want to make tangible in our lives, while Mars in Leo wants to illuminate the desires in our hearts. Let’s direct the light to uplifting thoughts and reach out for what and who we love.

Mercury goes retrograde in Leo on the 7thof July, and will revisit Cancer before it goes direct at the month’s end. Remembering to cultivate the thoughts that nurture and heal will help us through this period of growth and expansion. The ability to respond rather than react cannot be overvalued.

The second eclipse in this cycle, a Partial Lunar Eclipse, occurs at 22°- 24° Capricorn on the afternoon of the Full Moon on July 16, 2019. It begins at 12:43 pm MDT,reaches its maximum at 3:30 pm, and ends at 6:17 MDT that evening. It will be visible over most of Europe, most of Asia, Australia, Africa, South/East North America, South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and Antarctica.

As the Moon waxes full in Capricorn, this Partial Lunar Eclipse is packed with Pluto’s insistence that we excavate and transform our collective consciousness. To this end, we can explore what thoughts and energy we’re bringing to our days, our interactions with each other, and the world. Intentions have infinite organizing power – and this eclipse can bring instant feedback on ours. Choosing them wisely is highly recommended.

~ Are we empowered as co-creators of our existence? Or, are we victims of something that is seemingly outside of our control?

~ How can we shift our thoughts/energies/actions to contribute to a brighter world?

Eclipse cycles always bring opportunities to wipe away what no longer serves us and embrace a fresh start. This one is ripe with potential to birth a fluid new way of understanding ourselves and our place in the greater family of living, growing beings of which we’re a part.

May we love ourselves and each other along the way, and bless our shared journey with joy.

With abundant blessings and appreciation, always,
